I was a little puzzled ...The rye bread is AWESOME! I was a little puzzled about the starter, which looked like mortar and didn't noticeably grow or physically change during its first 6 hours. But I charged ahead with it anyway -- and what a payoff! The bread is very flavorful and soft. It is so good that I immediately made a second batch! Go!
